Vehicle and Document Requirements

Requirements for the driver

  • A valid South African PrDP
  • An Android or iPhone Smartphone with GPS
  • A criminal background check that will be performed by Taxify

Vehicle Document Requirements

  • Vehicle Inspection Report (inspection service available at our office. The report must be less than three months old) - No need for this if the car is brand new.
  • Motor vehicle license disc with operator card (double disc) from the Licensing Department
  • Comprehensive vehicle insurance (including R5 000 000 passenger liability) 
  • Operating License/ Permit from the Department of Transport

          

Accepted vehicles for Taxify Classic

  • Vehicles must be a 2013 model or newer
  • In Port Elizabeth, we accept 2012 or newer sedans and hatchbacks in good condition
  • We only accept four door sedans. Two door sedans and hatchbacks are not acceptable
  • The car must have less than 100 000kms on the clock
  • For Johannesburg specifically, we are no longer accepting Toyota Avanzas and Nissan Livina
  • For Cape Town, we are no longer accepting the Datsun Go and the Toyota Etios
  • The vehicle must pass the Taxify 45 point inspection or have a Dekra or AVTS certification

Accepted vehicles for Taxify Comfort (Johannesburg only)

  • Vehicles must be a 2010 model or newer
  • We accept the four door sedans listed above or qualifying SUVs
  • The vehicle must pass the Taxify 45 point inspection or have a Dekra or AVTS certification

How to obtain Dekra or Taxify Inspection:

  • Vehicle inspections are performed by your nearest DEKRA test centre
  • DEKRA inspection must not be older than three months
  • If your vehicle is newer than three months, a vehicle inspection report is not needed. You can upload your vehicle certificate of registration instead
  • Taxify vehicle inspections will be done at our offices

How to obtain Motor Vehicle License Disc with operator card (double disc):

  • Visit your nearest roadworthy centre or DEKRA centre
  • They will give you an extra form that you submit to the licensing department
  • This document is obtainable at any Licensing Department and takes between 1-3 days to receive
  • This document indicates that this vehicle is used to transport people

How to obtain Operating License/Permit:

  • This document is received at the Department of Transport Johannesburg, Pretoria and Ekurhuleni
  • Application for this document costs R300 payable at the department offices

Documents needed:

For Individuals

1 x certified copy of the following documents:

  • ID (RSA ID or passport)
  • PrDP
  • Proof of Address
  • Tax clearance certificate & Compliance PIN (obtainable at SARS Offices) 
  • Double Disc (Roadworthy Certificate)
  • Certificate of Registration

For a Company

1 x certified copy of the following documents for each vehicle:

  • ID of each director
  • Company Registration Documents (All pages required)
  • Proof of Address registered to either the company or a director(s)
  • Tax clearance certificate & Compliance PIN of company
  • Double Disc (Roadworthy Certificate) Certificate of Registration

How to obtain Motor Vehicle Registration Document (NATIS):

  • This document is obtained when you purchase and register the vehicle in your name
  • If this is a financed vehicle, a copy of this document can be obtained from the dealership or the bank

Comprehensive vehicle insurance (including R5 000 000 passenger liability)

Insurance requirements:

  • Third party property damage
  • Passenger Liability cover to the value of R5 Million per annum
  • Minimum R50,000 personal accident cover per vehicle passenger
  • Insurance companies for consideration: OutSurance, MiWay, Oakhurst, VUM, Kingprice etc.

Training times: Cape Town: 10h00 || Johannesburg: 11 and 13h00
Be at the office and hour before the training session so that your documents can be verified.
